    Sit ups really don't work. Only 2 muscles are being worked and the fat is not being burned. Riding a bike is better or walking or running. This burns fat.

    Hey don't be embarrassed, when I was trying to get back in shape things started off slow because my muscles weren't conditioned. That's the human body for you...it can improve with more work if you treat it right. Remember to get good nutrition too, it will help.

    Try to simulate the motions that involve pushing away from your body like you would with the pushups... try lying on your back and basically do bench presses with the dumbbells...add weight to what you can tolerate then once those muscles are stronger you will be able to easier to the pushups. Try reps until you fault (have to stop due to fatigue). That is your max. Try sets of at least 3 max reps per workout.

    Hey just a suggestion: I don't know if you already try this or not but you might want to try dumbells to strengthen your arms...it seems like you need to build some more arm strength before you will be able to have the power to do the push ups. Hey we all have to start somewhere. Work on improving function and you will get stronger from there. I have found that working specifically on muscle groups makes the tougher exercises that use them much easier.
