http://www.weforum.org 27.01.2007 The Impact of Web 2.0 and Emerging Social Network Models The rapid rise of online social networks is both a social and business phenomenon, the impact of which is only beginning to be understood. The consumer-powered Web 2.0 creates innovative ways for businesses to operate and people to communicate. 1) What is driving the emergence of virtual communities? Is the rapid rise in their valuations justified? 2) How are companies beginning to use social networking strategies for product and market development, as well as for communication? The moderator talks about US$800m of venture capital for Web 2.0 ventures last year (17:00 min). Anyone having a reference or a good source for the web 2.0 investments of the last years?

Flicker. Very interesting perspectives on the future of the web. Flicker Flicker. Howard Bloom released a video in the seventies (and a book FLICKER) called The Global Brain which made the argument Flicker that electronic media will become the nervous system of the world - so that one cell in the global body knows the problems and solutions FLICKE FLICKER being experienced by every other cell in the body. Seems like that day is upon us. Flicker flicker flicker....

It's actually more innovative in Europe, it's just better capitalization in the U.S. Europe has a way of creating great technology that Bill Gates' folks undermine and steal.
  8. by Oriel — @ 23:03:53

While I don't disagree per se, you did hear Gates talking about Minitel right? It's a French/British system, that was great technology-wise, but obviously lacked in other respects. Like you said, there is way too much red tape in Europe, but are you sure you're so much better in the states? What about the state of your justice system? By the way, "Typical European response" is a typical American response. You might achieve more by omitting it.
  9. by CLEOPATRA — @ 23:26:52

I love how the European lady dodges the question around 27:00 about lack of European innovation. If she were honest, she would've just admitted that Europe has way too much red tape and socialism to produce innovative enterprises. Instead she just starts rambling about regulations. Typical European response.

"Impact"? Talk about a buzzword! How about "Effect", "Affect" or "Influence"?
