This is seriously the most decrepit that I've ever seen Iggy. It was back when he was reduced to schmoozing with Tom Snyder and releasing soulless 80s rock albums to support his smack habit. Fortunately, his career finally rebounded in the early 90s, when HBO hired him to host their new show Tales from the Crypt.

He doesn't look in bad shape at all. Seems totally lucid there. And looking rather gorgeous too, despite the missing tooth.

I love Iggy! He truly is brilliant. I'm seeing him today with the Stooges! It's going to be SAVAGE! = )

This guy blows my mind every day!
  8. by Nann — @ 13:35:48

I love how endearing and sincere he is even though he seems high and/or exhausted from his performance. I'm glad he eventually sobered up. Everything in moderation. The way he appears in this clip is both saddening and endearing.

Iggy's idea of fun is what makes the difference, he's a kid with an atomic soul.
  10. by GALINA — @ 14:21:46

Well, I know Mick Jagger went to college on scholarship to study accounting and finance and was actually a very good student, but besides that, you got me. Anyway, that is pretty interesting, although I'm not surprised. He always struck me as smarter than he let on.

That's an understatment....I'm surprised anyone was able to keep up with him! Long live the Ig!

with all the junk in his veins, he's still a sweet guy. Iggy just liked to have fun.
  13. by Vevila — @ 15:30:43

Oh lord is he in bad shape here! Honestly, he looks like he's speeding out of his mind..actually, it's probably speed and smack at the same time. Still, he was, is and always will be magnificent.

I saw this when I was in college. He did split his lip and chipped a tooth when he hit himself with the mike. By the way, it's way earlier than 80. I'd say 1974 or 1973. That was my college insomniac years. Snyder was trying to change up his format from pure talk and brought in a lot of edgy acts. Wendy O and The Plasmatics memorably.

thats cool jesman. punk is an attitude not just a style of music or fashion. punk is giving the finger when the bastards need it given to them.

Johnny Cash, punk? In what sense? Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Cash, but it's not the same style of music.

iggy`s just a very cool, intelligent survivor!!he had ups and downs that what makes him an icon.ride passenger, ride!!!!!!!!!
  18. by KERES — @ 17:25:38

Fascinating -- I wonder how many other closeted intellectuals there are in rock. (Even Frank Zappa said he wasn't much of a reader.)
  19. by Irwin — @ 17:48:37

Johnny Cash started being "punk" fifteen years before Iggy, not to take anything from Iggy. Hank Williams Sr before that. They just laid the groundwork for all those to follow even though, I know, smartasses, they werent rock. Although, at first, Cash was rockabilly.

One of his best buddies, Bowie, always said he was the guy that reads he just didnt want anyone to know.
