85% of position changes on a string instrument are usually silent. The fret noise is kind of a residual sound because of friction against the string, it can be avoided however with use of speciality string lubricants which are availible at most guitar retailers. The reason most are silent is because the over use of glissando efect is usually of bad taste. To avoid this slow your picking hand down and take all pressure off the string but keep your fingers close and well spaced.
Goodluck,
Sarah.
Not sure what you're asking, but to do a great one it takes relaxation especially in your thumb, a tense thumb causes a tense grip which makes a crummy slide. You need to have your arm and hand relaxed and you switch possitions by sliding down the same string, for what in classical music is known as a glissando effect. Tightness will cause a bumpy slide and it will sound more chromatic than an actual slide would or should. A proper slide should be smooth.
I hope that helps some.
Sarah.
its john butler trio, john butler being the guitarist, the drums are Micheal Barker and bass is Shannon Birchall.
and as for "embeebutterly" if you knew what john did with his money for charity and other environmental causes you would shut up!!!!! noob.
John Butler tone deaf? Now YOU must be deaf bro. When you play a VERSION you´re allowed to change the feel of a song, and even chords if you consider it interesting. A VERSION doesn't have to be an exact imitation, in fact, I don't think it should be. Greetings from Spain.
Oh, "he doesn´t quite reach notes" means you haven´t actually seen him play live?
fantastic cover version of a police classic and probably much better than the original.......let down by some truely horrible camera work...the camera man should be suspended by his balls until he promises never to touch a camera again
i love this version. im not saying its better than the original police version. this version is just really chill. i honestly dont know which version i like better.
I dunno, I don't think he's a weak singer, but i do see that his style and his melody are rawer than say Jeff Buckley whose melodic range in pitch was greater than John Butler's but all the same they're two completely different artists, so it's not fair to compare. And I do love this guy's music!
This is a great cover, John Butler is an outstanding Musician, It's all really from the heart; you can tell. I've heard people's criticism is that his weakness is in his singin but I view that this is more than compensated with his skill on guitar and the style of music he plays too! Great song!
